Getting started
So you may either have a very detailed view of what you want or just a vague concept. What happens next? How much will it cost?
In terms of design it is possible to do quite a bit of research yourself. Naturally, we would recommend looking through the images on this site first but inspiration can come from many sources not necessarily related directly to furniture. Our first point of reference would be the location of the proposed furniture. Does the room already have an obvious design theme, should the design evolve or flow from corresponding rooms or perhaps the external cues of the building?
Give us a call and we can help chat through your ideas on the phone. Once we have a general view of the size and likely design of the piece of furniture we can give you an idea of the price. If you want to take it further we will then arrange to visit you to complete a site survey before producing more detailed drawings and a full quotation for the work.
Alternatively, if you are really struggling for ideas or have a wider scheme in mind we can put you in touch with great interior designers or architects we have worked with in the past who can help you. If you already have an interior designer or architect we are happy to liaise directly with them as needed.
Things that affect the price
There are essentially two things that affect the price of a piece of furniture or joinery. The first is the choice of wood and whether it is solid timber or a veneer. A solid oak door will cost approximately 50% more than the equivalent door in iroko for example. Similarly, a fitted wine cellar in oak veneer will be significantly cheaper than a solid oak example.
The second factor is how long it will take us to make the piece. This is largely determined by the manufacturing complexity. If we design the piece we will use our knowledge of construction to make sure that we can build the piece as efficiently as possible. If we are given a design from an architect or interior designer we will examine the drawings carefully to try and spot efficiencies that can be made and suggest them to the professional concerned. Big savings can sometimes be made by changing relatively minor details that do not impact on the final design.
How long will it take?
When we issue a quote for the work we will give you indicative timescales of when we plan to complete and fit the work. Generally we can be quite flexible with regard to timescales and we are used to working to deadlines, even quite urgent ones.
How and when do I pay for the work
Once we have issued a formal quotation that you are happy with we would ask you to pay the first instalment as confirmation of the order. This payment represents 25% of the total quotation. We will then contact you just before the work is complete and ask you to pay a further 50% of the total before fitting. Finally, the remaining 25% is due after we have completed and fitted the furniture. Payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque, debit or credit card.
What guarantees do I have?
We guarantee all materials and finishes for twelve months and all our workmanship for life. We limit the materials guarantee because wood is a natural product and does change as it ages. We will of course advise you of how your wood and finish selection will age over time and the possible effect it will have on your furniture. We are also happy to provide advice at any time on how to care for your furniture.
Our aim is for you to be delighted with your furniture and we will endeavour to repair anything even if it is not under guarantee.
